The Olympic Sports Final Project continues...
This week you will be researching the history of your sport! Four Keynote slides are due by the end of class this Friday, April 29th for 15 points! Please make sure you answer the following questions when researching the history of your sport:
1) What year was your sport created?
2) Who "invented" your sport?
3) In what country was your sport created?
4) Why was your sport created?
5) Approximately in how many countries is your sport played?
6) Does your sport encompass all ethnicities and cultures? Explain in detail why it does or doesn't.
Please make sure you update your "Works Cited" slide as you go as I will be checking it on Friday as well for an additional five points!
It's time for our Final Project!! Please read the attached document with all the directions and helpful hints included in it. By the end of class today, you will need to have your sport approved by Mrs. MacDonald and created your Works Cited slide created!
We are back to a normal schedule for one day!! Today we will investigate the Keynote app. Practice inserting various elements into Keynote such as: images, video and text. Click here for a tutorial on how to use Keynote!
After you have investigated Keynote for about 15 minutes, hop over to your computer and open Office365. I know you will find it hard to believe I'm saying this, but you will investigate the new PowerPoint also! I heard they have incorporated a way to create infographics on PowerPoint and I want to check it out. You will create a Word document (which you will share with me) and give me 5 compelling reasons which presentation software would best fit our needs for an in-depth research project and presentation! After reviewing your arguments, I will decide if we use Keynote or PowerPoint for our final project!!
8th Grade students!! For a ten point classroom assessment grade today, you will add all the background information and the four required images to your iMovie. If it is too difficult to save individual images from a website, just create a screenshot of the image (press the home button and the power button at the same time... it will be saved to your photo gallery in the camera roll) and insert into your iMovie. Just remember to make note of the URL for your citations! DO NOT ADD ANY VIDEOS AT THIS TIME! This means you should not waste your valuable time looking for videos today. Stay on task and add the text and images! *** For the ten points you must show me your iMovie with the text and the four images before you leave class today!*** Just to see how difficult it is to add text and photos, Mrs. MacDonald played around with iMovie and created a 7-sec. movie with one photo and title text on the photo in two minutes. It is not difficult at all. You will probably have to change the size of the font to be able to add the amount of text you are required to add. There are directions on how to add title text and individual images to iMovie at your table seat!
Remember, we will be meeting in Mr. Jones's classroom Monday morning!!
6th and 7th Grade students: For a ten point classroom assessment grade today, you will add your background information to the Slide Idea slides you prepared yesterday. You will look for four images to add to the Gallery slide. If it is too difficult to save the individual images, just create a screenshot of the image to insert into the slide. Just remember to make note of the URL for your citations! *** For the ten points you must show me your iMovie with the text and the four images before you leave class today!***
Thanks again to Max who assisted me with the Slide Idea instruction in the 6th and 7th grade classes!!
1) You will learn how to add elements to your chosen presentation app.
2) You will add the information from your sport background research assignment to the app.
3) You will locate 4 images and 2 videos of your sport to add to your presentation. Don't forget to write the citation for each image and video!!
This project will be due at the end of your class period tomorrow and will be worth 10 points! Three points for the background information, one point for each image, one point for each video, and one point for the citations.
It's Early Release Day!!! So with the few minutes we will have in the classroom, we will go over next weeks' testing locations! Please be sure to bring your agendas to class so you may write on each date the location of class. It will be changing on a daily basis!!
You will research background information for the Olympic sport you chose to practice your new iPad app with... You will write a one notebook page paper, single space, with the following required information: 1) the history of your sport, 2) the basic rules of your sport and 3) how many countries participate in your sport during the Olympics. Do not forget to cite your sources of information!! This will be your last classroom assessment grade for the 3rd nine weeks and will be worth ten points. This is the only research day of the assignment so please stay on task!
6th and 7th Grade students will share information on the apps they located last Friday with the class. Students will discuss the various apps and vote on the app they want to use on their next project.
8th Grade students will be introduced to the Brazil Olympics website with information about the various sports played during the summer Olympics focusing on sailing. Students will also learn background information on the America's Cup. Students will use the iMovie app to create a movie all about sailing. In-depth details coming tomorrow!
Students will investigate new apps to share information. They will share each app and vote for the next app we will learn in class!
